World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims - 20 November 2011

Given that today (20/11/11) is World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims, I thought I would do a remembrance post for family that have been taken from us due to being road traffic victims.

Lucy born 21 March 1907 and died 8 March 1974. She was killed after being hit by a lorry on the road going to Inkberrow.

James (Lucy's brother) born William James on 11 October 1911 and died 24 July 1919 from a 'fracture to the skull caused by his accidentally falling and being run over by a motor lorry' in Smethwick.

Violet born cDecember 1893 and died in the 1960's after being run over by a car apparently at the crossing at the lights on her way to the library.

Birmingham Daily Post - Friday 26 February 1960

Woman Killed Mrs. Violet May Mitchell. aged 65. of St. Mark's Street. Ladywood, was killed last night in an accident with a solo motor-cyclist as she was crossing Icknield Street.

The dog, Max, also got run over. He was run over by a bus but miraculously survived.

So let's pause to remember those who lost their lives to road traffic accidents in the distant, and not so distant past, including 'nearly 1.3 million people who lost their lives and the millions of others who were injured on the world's roads this year'.
